A phone camera is most people’s default scanner now, whether the subject is a receipt for an expense report, a whiteboard full of notes after a meeting, or a signed contract page nobody got around to scanning properly. The problem shows up right after: you’ve got five separate JPG files sitting in your camera roll, and whoever’s asking for them wants one document, not five attachments they have to open in the right order to make sense of. This tool takes a batch of JPG photos and combines them into a single PDF, one photo per page, in the exact order you added them.

How a stack of photos becomes one PDF

Under the hood, this uses a JavaScript library called pdf-lib to build a genuine multi-page PDF document — it creates a blank PDF, then embeds each JPG onto its own page, one after another, in upload order. That last detail matters in practice: the order your files appear in the upload list is the order the pages come out in the finished document. If you’ve dropped photos in out of sequence, the fix is simple — remove the misplaced one with its own remove button and add it back in the right spot — rather than starting the whole batch over.

You also get a choice of page size, and it’s worth understanding what each option actually does before picking one. “Fit to image” makes each PDF page exactly the same shape as the photo on it — no white space, no margins, just the image filling the page edge to edge. That’s the right choice when you want the PDF to be a faithful digital copy of what you photographed, particularly for anything landscape-oriented like a whiteboard photo, where forcing it onto a portrait A4 page would waste most of the page. Choosing A4 or US Letter instead does the opposite: it creates a standard-sized page and centers your photo on it with a margin around the edges, scaling the image down if needed to fit within that margin. That’s the better option when the PDF needs to look and print like a normal document — an expense report attachment, something headed to a printer, or a file going somewhere that expects standard paper proportions.

Where this comes up constantly

Expense reporting is probably the single most common trigger. Finance departments and expense tools almost universally want receipts as PDF attachments, not a folder of loose photos, and manually converting each one in separate desktop software for a handful of coffee receipts is far more effort than the task deserves. Photograph each receipt, drop them all in here in order, pick A4 or Letter so it prints cleanly, and you’ve got one attachment instead of five separate images to juggle.

Meeting notes are the second common case. Someone photographs a whiteboard at the end of a session — sometimes across two or three shots if the board was too wide for one frame — and needs those combined into something that can be shared and archived alongside the meeting minutes, rather than living on as loose images scattered through a chat thread where nobody will find them again.

Signed paperwork is the third: a contract, a form, a permission slip signed on paper and photographed page by page because there’s no scanner nearby. Turning those individual page photos into one properly ordered PDF is exactly what most recipients mean when they ask for a “signed copy” — a single document, not a string of image attachments they have to piece back together themselves in the right sequence.

A couple of things to keep in mind

  • This tool embeds the photos as they are — it doesn’t straighten crooked pages, correct perspective, or auto-crop, so a document photographed at an angle will show up at that same angle in the PDF. Taking the photo as straight-on and well-lit as you reasonably can makes a real difference in the finished result.
  • Upload order is page order, with no separate drag-to-reorder step, so it helps to plan the order you add files in, or remove and re-add a file if you need to move it later.
  • For a mix of receipts of different shapes and sizes, A4 or Letter tends to look more consistent as a finished document than “fit to image,” which will produce noticeably different page dimensions from one page to the next.

Because the PDF is assembled entirely in your browser using that pdf-lib library, none of your photos are uploaded to a server to be stitched together somewhere else — worth knowing if what you’re photographing is a signed contract or anything else you’d rather not hand to a third party just to combine a few JPGs into one file. The whole thing runs locally and finishes about as fast as your device can process the images, usually well under a minute for a normal stack of receipts or notes.
